Dear Diary,

I texted Sarah last night asking if she wanted to have lunch with me today, just the two of us, and she accepted. I told her that just because I’m often talking to Jane, it doesn’t change anything about our friendship. After all, we have been friends for a long time! She said that she knows that, but she just felt bad because she doesn’t think that Jane likes her. I told her not to worry about what Jane thinks and that I would talk to her about it. Sarah felt a lot better, and after we both cried a little, we spent the rest of lunch talking about the latest gossip.

Ontem à noite enviei uma mensagem à Sarah a perguntar se queria almoçar comigo hoje, só os dois, e ela aceitou. Eu disse-lhe que só porque falo muito com a Jane não muda nada na nossa amizade. Afinal, somos amigos há muito tempo! Ela disse que sabe disso, mas que se sente mal porque acha que Jane não gosta dela. Disse-lhe para não se preocupar com o que a Jane pensa e que eu falaria com ela sobre isso. A Sarah sentiu-se muito melhor e, depois de ambas chorarmos um pouco, passámos o resto do almoço a conversar sobre as últimas fofocas.

During English class, I talked to Jane about what Sarah said. She said that it’s not that she doesn’t like Sarah, she just thinks Sarah talks only about her breakup with Nick. I explained that Sarah was so sad about it and how Nick had cheated on her, which Jane didn’t know, and she felt bad for saying mean things about Sarah.

Durante a aula de Inglês, conversei com a Jane sobre o que a Sarah disse. Ela disse que não é que não goste de Sarah, apenas acha que Sarah só fala da sua separação com Nick. Expliquei que a Sarah estava muito triste com isso e como o Nick a tinha traído, o que a Jane não sabia, e sentiu-se mal por dizer coisas maldosas sobre a Sarah.

I thought it would be fun for the three of us to get some coffee after school and try to make everything better. When I texted Sarah later, she said everything was fine, but I know her well enough to know that’s not completely true. It just frustrates me because I don’t want things to change between us...

Pensei que seria divertido tomarmos os três um café depois da escola e tentar melhorar tudo. Quando enviei uma mensagem à Sarah mais tarde, ela disse que estava tudo bem, mas eu conheço-a bem o suficiente para saber que isso não é totalmente verdade. Só me frustra porque não quero que as coisas mudem entre nós...
