A AFA tem um perfil muito claro: cobra gramática clássica, mas de forma técnica, lógica e sutil.
✔️ 1) Inversões formais (Should / Were / Had)
Típico da AFA. Parece voz passiva, mas é condicional.
✔️ 2) Mixed conditionals
Um dos queridinhos da prova. Eles ADORAM mesclar tempo passado + resultado presente.
✔️ 3) Confusão entre “if / unless / in case / provided that"
AFA AMA palavras que parecem equivalentes, mas não são.
✔️ 4) Contexto aeronáutico + condicional
Flaps, runway, checklist, signal, communication, weather — tudo para distrair.
✔️ 5) Imperativo criando condicional implícita
Pegadinha clássica para derrubar quem só reconhece “if”.

1) Futuro do “if” → AFA ADORA o verbo no presente
Exemplo:
If the pressure drops, the indicator will flash.
Pegadinha AFA: aluno coloca futuro no “if” (If the pressure will drop…).
2) “Unless” ≠ “if not” automaticamente
Exemplo:
Unless the pilot checks the flaps, the aircraft won’t take off.
Pegadinha AFA: trocar por “if not” e bagunçar a frase.
3) “In case” = precaução, NÃO hipótese
Exemplo:
Take a backup radio in case the main one fails.
Pegadinha AFA: interpretar como condicional real e não precaution.
4) “If + will” permitido quando expressa disposição
Exemplo:
If you will follow me, I’ll show you the hangar.
Pegadinha AFA: julgar “if + will” como sempre errado.
5) “Should” como inversão condicional formal
Exemplo:
Should any warning appear, initiate the checklist.
Pegadinha AFA: aluno não percebe que é 1st conditional invertido.
6) “Were” como inversão do 2nd conditional
Exemplo:
Were the runway longer, the maneuver would be safer.
Pegadinha AFA: achar que falta “if”.
7) Mixed conditionals (AMADÍSSIMO pela AFA)
Exemplo:
If he had trained more, he would be performing better today.
Pegadinha AFA: aluno tenta encaixar em um único tipo.
8) “Even if” = condição extrema (não depende do fato)
Exemplo:
Even if communication is lost, the flight continues.
Pegadinha AFA: interpretar como hipótese fraca.
9) “As long as” com sentido de condição permissiva
Exemplo:
You may proceed as long as the tower clears you.
Pegadinha AFA: confundir com “while”.
10) “Provided that” = condição indispensável
Exemplo:
The squadron advances provided that the weather remains stable.
Pegadinha AFA: achar que é igual a “if” leve.
11) Zero conditional (AFA ama ciência + aeronáutica)
Exemplo:
If air heats up, it expands.
Pegadinha AFA: marcar como futuro.
12) If + past ≠ passado real → é hipótese
Exemplo:
If he trained more, he would pass the test.
Pegadinha AFA: confundir com passado factual.
13) “If only” = desejo forte (não pede consequência)
Exemplo:
If only the weather were clearer!
Pegadinha AFA: aluno acha que a frase está incompleta.
14) “If not for” + noun (irrealidade)
Exemplo:
If not for the warning system, the failure would go unnoticed.
Pegadinha AFA: trocar por “unless” (e errar feio).
15) Modal perfeito em resultados irreais
Exemplo:
If the crew had seen the signal, the crash might have been avoided.
Pegadinha AFA: achar que só “would have” é permitido.
16) Condicional implícita com imperativo
Exemplo:
Follow the protocol, and you’ll avoid penalties.
Pegadinha AFA: aluno não enxerga que é equivalente a “if”.
17) “But for” (versão mais formal de “if not for”)
Exemplo:
But for the alarm, they would have continued unaware.
Pegadinha AFA: traduzir literalmente como “mas para”.
18) “Otherwise” criando condicional sem “if”
Exemplo:
Check the altitude; otherwise, you may drift off course.
Pegadinha AFA: aluno não reconhece condicional implícita.
19) “If so / if not” resumido
Exemplo:
Check the fuel levels; if not, refuel the aircraft.
Pegadinha AFA: achar que está faltando verbo.
20) Third conditional com verbo irregular crítico
Exemplo:
If the mechanic had overseen the inspection, the error wouldn’t have occurred.
Pegadinha AFA: errar o particípio (overseen, não overseed / overseeed).
