1) Zero ≠ First (general truth vs. future)
Exemplo:
If water reaches 100°C, it boils.
Pegadinha IME: aluno troca por will boil (proibido em zero conditional).
2) First Conditional sem will na if-clause
Exemplo:
If you study harder, you will pass the exam.
Pegadinha IME: coloca will study na cláusula condicional → ERRO.
3) Second Conditional → WOULD + base, mesmo com verbos modais
Exemplo:
If I were rich, I would travel more.
Pegadinha IME: usar would travelled ou would to travel.
4) Were em vez de Was (formal subjunctive)
Exemplo:
If I were you, I’d reconsider the plan.
Pegadinha IME: coloca If I was you e o IME marca errado.
5) Third Conditional exige HAD + Past Participle
Exemplo:
If they had trained earlier, they would have won.
Pegadinha IME: troca had trained por would have trained.
6) Would have + P.P. (main clause)
Exemplo:
You would have passed if you had listened.
Pegadinha IME: cria concordância cruzada → If you would have listened… (ERRADO).
7) Misturar Second com Third (Mixed Type 1)
Exemplo:
If he had saved money, he would buy a car now.
Pegadinha IME: candidato transforma tudo em third conditional por reflexo.
8) Misturar First com Second (Mixed Type 2)
Exemplo:
If I were more confident, I will apply for the IME.
Pegadinha IME: parece estranho, mas é perfeitamente possível dependendo do contexto.
9) Unless = If not (mas nunca com not junto)
Exemplo:
Unless you hurry, we’ll miss the bus.
Pegadinha IME: escrever Unless you don’t hurry… → DUPLA NEGATIVA errada.
10) Conditional Inversion (Had / Should / Were)
Exemplo:
Had I known the answer, I would have replied immediately.
Pegadinha IME: aluno acha que falta sujeito → tenta “If I had known…”, mas devem reconhecer inversão como correta.
11) Should-inversion no First Conditional
Exemplo:
Should you need assistance, call this number.
Pegadinha IME: candidato pensa que é futuro simples e coloca If you will need….
12) O verbo principal no presente mesmo com sentido futuro
Exemplo:
If the plane arrives late, we miss the connection.
Pegadinha IME: tenta colocar will miss achando que futuro é obrigatório.
13) Imperative + if-clause
Exemplo:
Call me if you need anything.
Pegadinha IME: usar will need na if-clause por força de hábito.
14) Non-real past (Second) ≠ Past real
Exemplo:
If he knew physics, he would solve it easily.
Pegadinha IME: aluno interpreta “knew” como passado real → ERRO DE LEITURA DE CONTEXTO.
15) Should + base form para atenuar hipóteses remotas
Exemplo:
If you should see him, tell me.
Pegadinha IME: candidato troca por If you see him achando sinônimo perfeito, mas perde nuance cobrada.
16) IF é condicional, WHEN é certeza
Exemplo:
When he finishes the test, he will leave.
Pegadinha IME: colocar If he finishes — muda todo o sentido.
17) Unless ≠ Except if
Exemplo:
You won’t succeed unless you practice.
Pegadinha IME: substitui por except if sem perceber que altera a lógica.
18) Past Perfect obrigatório no Third Conditional
Exemplo:
If she had called earlier, we would have gone.
Pegadinha IME: aluno usa If she called earlier… e cria First Conditional errado.
19) Would rather + Simple Past (preferência irreal)
Exemplo:
I’d rather you stayed home if the weather got worse.
Pegadinha IME: troca por if the weather gets worse, quebrando a construção irreal.
20) As long as / Provided that = condições fortes
Exemplo:
You may enter provided that you show your ID.
Pegadinha IME: achar que pode usar will show porque a ação é futura.
