(CNN) – How does the wealthy boating enthusiast reconcile a passion for gasguzzling superyachts with concern for the natural ocean environment?

Como é que o rico entusiasta de barcos concilia a paixão pelos super iates que consomem muita gasolina com a preocupação com o ambiente natural do oceano?

Sure, powerful engines and deluxe onboard facilities ensure the lap of high seas luxury, but these extravagant features are usually powered by high fuel emissions and energy consumption.

É claro que motores potentes e instalações de luxo a bordo garantem o luxo do alto mar, mas estas características extravagantes são geralmente alimentadas por elevadas emissões de combustível e elevado consumo de energia.

But for the millionaire mariner with the planet’s best interest at heart, help will soon be at hand in the shape of the Columbus Sport 130´ Hybrid – a new 40 meter ship that aims to fuse superyacht chic with an ecofriendly design concept.

Mas para o marinheiro milionário que tem o melhor interesse do planeta em mente, a ajuda estará em breve à mão na forma do Columbus Sport 130´ Hybrid – um novo navio de 40 metros que visa fundir o chique dos super iates com um conceito de design ecológico.

Currently on the production line of Italian ship builder, Palumbo Shipyards, the lavish vessel is due for completion in August 2013 and will cost a cool $30 million upon delivery.

Atualmente na linha de produção do construtor naval italiano Palumbo Shipyards, o luxuoso navio deverá estar concluído em agosto de 2013 e custará 30 milhões de dólares na entrega.

Palumbo explains that the vessel’s efficiencies are driven by twin electrical and diesel engines that combine performance to reduce emissions whilst simultaneously generating electricity for the ships myriad on board amenities.

Palumbo explica que a eficiência da embarcação é impulsionada por dois motores elétricos e a diesel que combinam o desempenho para reduzir as emissões e, ao mesmo tempo, gerar eletricidade para as inúmeras comodidades a bordo do navio.

It also includes extra eco features such as a bilge water separator – a device that extracts oil from sea water entering the vessel´s engines before it is disposed back into the ocean.

Inclui também características ecológicas extra, como um separador de água de porão – um dispositivo que extrai óleo da água do mar que entra nos motores da embarcação antes de ser descartado de volta para o oceano.

An all aluminium exterior and lightweight skeletal structure is as slight and sleek as possible, therefore taking less energy to power, he adds.

Although there may be other yachts that offer greater speeds or performance levels, the Sport 130´ Hybrid “enable(s) greater maneuverability,” cuts noise pollution and reduces overall “maintenance costs” – on top of the obvious environmental benefits, adds Palumbo.

Embora possa haver outros iates que ofereçam velocidades ou níveis de desempenho mais elevados, o Sport 130´ Hybrid “permite uma maior manobrabilidade”, reduz a poluição sonora e reduz os “custos de manutenção” globais – para além dos óbvios benefícios ambientais, acrescenta Palumbo.

But while the vessel may stand out because of its high-tech eco friendly features, Palumbo is quick to ensure that it doesn´t skimp on the traditionally ostentatious superyacht features as well.
