Ok, so it’s a funny word… but what is puberty, anyway?

Ok, é uma palavra engraçada... mas o que é, afinal, a puberdade?

Puberty is the name for when your body begins to develop and change.

Puberdade é o nome dado ao momento em que o seu corpo começa a desenvolver-se e a mudar.

During puberty, your body will grow faster than any other time in your life, except for when you were an infant. It’s good to know about the changes that come along with puberty before they happen, and it’s really important to remember that everybody goes through it.

Durante a puberdade, o seu corpo crescerá mais rapidamente do que em qualquer outro momento da sua vida, exceto quando era bebé. É bom saber sobre as mudanças que ocorrem na puberdade antes de elas acontecerem, e é muito importante lembrar que toda a gente passa por isso.

Puberty usually starts some time between age 7 and 13 in girls and 9 and 15 in guys.

A puberdade começa geralmente entre os 7 e os 13 anos nas garotas e os 9 e os 15 anos nos rapazes.

So when your body reaches a certain age, your brain releases special hormones that start the changes of puberty.

Depois, quando o seu corpo atinge uma certa idade, o seu cérebro liberta hormonas especiais que iniciam as mudanças da puberdade.

Guys and girls have both these hormones in their bodies, and depending on whether you’re a guy or a girl, these hormones work on different parts in your body.

Homens e mulheres têm estas duas hormonas no seu corpo e, dependendo se é homem ou mulher, estas hormonas atuam em partes diferentes do corpo. 

So that’s what’s really happening during puberty – it’s all these new chemicals moving around inside your body, turning you from a teen into an adult.

Então é isto que realmente acontece durante a puberdade: são todos estes novos químicos a movimentarem-se dentro do seu corpo, transformando-o de adolescente em adulto.

But one of the first signs of puberty is hair growing where it didn’t before. Guys and girls both begin to grow hair under their arms and in their genitals.

Another thing that comes with puberty is acne (or pimple), which is started by puberty hormones. Pimples usually start around the middle of puberty and can stay during adolescence.

Outra coisa que surge com a puberdade é a acne (ou borbulha), que é desencadeada pelas hormonas da puberdade. As borbulhas começam geralmente em meados da puberdade e podem permanecer durante a adolescência.

Change can feel kind of strange

While your body is adjusting to all these hormones, so is your mind. During puberty, you might feel confused or have strong emotions that you’ve never experienced before.
