FASHION REVOLUTION DAY 2014
"We believe in a fashion industry which values people, the environment, creativity and profits in equal measure, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to ensure that this happens." ~FRD Team Fashion
_____________________________________________________________________________
Revolution Day (FRD) has been initiated by industry leaders, campaigners, journalists and academics from within the fashion world and beyond, who see the tragedy at Rana Plaza as a call to action. On April 24, 2013, 1,133 people were killed and more than 2500 injured when the Rana Plaza factory complex collapsed in Bangladesh. The illegally constructed, Rana Plaza collapsed as thousands of people worked inside in five garment factories. The collapse was the deadliest disaster to hit Bangladesh’s garment industry, which is worth $20 billion annually and supplies global retailers. The collapse highlighted how harsh and unsafe conditions can be for many of the country’s 4 million workers working in the world’s second-largest garment producing country after China.

On April 24, 2014, Fashion Revolution Day will celebrate fashion as a positive influence, and all those who contribute to making it so. It will be a truly global movement which brings together both the fashion community at large and the entire fashion supply chain. Held on the anniversary of the Rana Plaza disaster, FRD will honor the workers who lost their lives, address the true cost of fashion, and demonstrate to the world that change is possible.

We will use the day to ask questions, to raise standards, to make a difference and to set an example to the rest of the industry that change is possible. We will celebrate the big stories and the small stories, from farmers to factory workers, brands to buyers, consumers to campaigners.

TTG will co-host two student led ethical fashion events to coincide with Fashion Revolution Day at Columbia University in New York and Rice University in Houston. They will serve as powerful statements in support of ethically produced clothing. Each event will culminate with all of the models on the runway wearing their clothing #insideout.

#insideout is the call to action for a day of activism to honor those garment workers who lost their lives.

We invite students around the world to support this movement on their own campuses by turning their clothing #insideout on April 24 and asking the question, Who Made Your Clothes?

It’s time to translate conventional attire into conscious choices. Please join us!
